Max "Chief" Morrow, Sr. Obituary

Max “Chief” Eugene Morrow, Sr., “Ogema”, age 84, of Bagley, Minnesota and the Loon Clan began his journey to the spirit world on Monday, April 27th, 2020 from Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN with his sister Leona Shaugobay at his side.

Max “Chief” was born on March 12th, 1936 in Federal Dam, MN to Lettie (White) and John Morrow.  They lived in Battle Point on Leech Lake until Chief was taken to the Duluth Orphanage, where he stayed until he was 12.  He then returned home to his parents and attended school in Federal Dam.  Max was a mischievous child, always getting into trouble and chasing squirrels up the trees.  He liked boating, fishing, swimming and playing with his furry friends Pal and Mr. Bear.  Max often walked across the garden to visit his grandma Jenny White.  Max had various jobs, working at the casino as a maintenance worker and later at the dumpster in Bena maintaining waste products.  He always greeted people on the phone saying “Yeow Wah” and then he would tell the person on the other end to say it too.  Max was a very well-liked and respected person who will be missed by all.

Family welcoming Max to the spirit world are his parents, Lettie and John Morrow; sons, Max Jr., Reuben, Darrel and Gerald “Jerry” Morrow and Raymond “Doug” Cloud; sisters, Eunice, Darlene and Carolyn, brothers, Hartly White, Arthur and LaVerne Morrow; uncles, Porkey, Tom, Dan Sr. and Simon White; aunt, Rachel Greene and others; a lot of nieces and nephews, too many cousins to mention and his special friend, Darlene.

He leaves behind his sons, Kenny Morrow and Joe Cloud; daughter, Theodora “Teddie” Redwing; brothers, Jack Morrow; sisters, Barbara Shipley, Janice Brown and Leona Shaugobay; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Henry-Morrow; several grandchildren, cousins, Guy Jr., Virginia and Irene Greene, Giiwedin Biindige and numerous 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins.

An overnight wake for Max will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29th and continue until his 10:00 a.m. traditional service on Thursday, April 30th all being held at the Sugar Point Community Center at Sugar Point, MN.  Giiwedin Biindige will be his Spiritual Advisor.   Pallbearers will be Miiakwad Johnson, Benayshee Johnson, Andy Johnson, Jonathon Shaugobay, John Johnson and Randall Shaugobay.  His honorary pallbearers are Leona Shaugobay, James Shaugobay, Joe Shaugobay and Terry Shaugobay.  Interment will be in the Battle Point Burial Grounds at Battle Point, MN.
