Patrick Dennis Northbird

Patrick Dennis Northbird, Chi-Moozinini (big moose man) of the Eagle Clan entered the Spirit World on April 9, 2025, from the Sanford Hospital, Bemidji, MN.

He was born in Cass Lake, MN, on January 19, 1953, to Louis and Adella (Stillday) Northbird.

He is survived by his wife, Chyrle of 51 years; son, Ricky LaDuke; daughter, Trista (Cedric Fairbanks) LaDuke; grandkids, Dedrick LaDuke, Amare LaDuke, Wambli McArthur, Briauna LaDuke, TeKayLah LaDuke, Caesar Fairbanks, Czabrina Fairbanks; brother, Eugene Northbird, Sr.; sisters, Lois (Dolly) Northbird and Brenda Northbird; brothers-in-law, Alfred (Cindy) LaDuke and Terry (Marilyn) LaDuke; sisters-in-law, Tammi LaDuke and Marla LaDuke; and all of Cass Lake.

The greatest joys in his life were spending time with his grandkids and gambling with his wife and daughter at Cedar Lakes, “let’s go get our coupons”. He loved helping anyone in need, not only in his immediate family, but community members too. He was our silent hero, taking care of those things, we didn’t know we needed. The family caretaker, and traditional man. He was an avid hunter and gather, supplying folks with his catch and bounty of wild rice. He also enjoyed many years as a main heavy equipment operator for Leech Lake most of his life. He received his high school diploma from Bemidji High School and his heavy equipment operator certificate from Staples Vo tech.

Those greeting him in the spirit world are his parents; Louis and Adella, brothers; Gordon, Jerry, Louis (Acey), Wesley (George) Northbird, sisters; Melvina and Arlene Northbird, and mother-in-law, Iva LaDuke.

A wake for Patrick will begin on Saturday April 12, 2025, at 7:00 p.m., continuing until his traditional service on Monday April 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. all to be held at the Verterans Memorial Building, in Cass Lake, MN. His spiritual advisor will be Zach Earl and Ty Stately. Those helping to lay Patrick to rest are Dave Chase, Brian Finn, Robert Fisher, Marvin Hanson, Terry LaDuke, Bobby Early, Donald Armstong, Samuel Staples, and Dan Staples.  Alternate pallbearers will be Alfred LaDuke and Mathew LaDuke, and his Mide family members. Special music will be Northbird family singers. Interment will be immediately following his service in the Northbird Family Cemetery, Cass Lake, MN.
