Peter Raish, Jr., “Biwaabik Muckwa” which means “Strong Bear”, age 53, passed away on November 24th, 2021, at his home in Cass Lake, Minnesota. He was born August 18th, 1968, to Lucille (Headbird) and Peter Raish, Sr. in Bemidji, MN.
Pete went to Cass Lake/Bena High School and was working as a CD Counselor at Woman’s Services and a men’s halfway house for the past 4-5 years. Before that, he worked for Leech Lake Gaming for 30+ years.
He was a true outdoorsman. Pete loved to go fishing, hunting, play golf and golfing in tournaments. He loved his motorcycle and giving his nieces and nephew rides in the warm months. In the winter months, he loved to ice fish and ride his snowmobile, also giving his nieces and nephew rides in it too. Pete loved the Minnesota Vikings and never missed a game. He also loved watching and collecting movies.
Family that Pete joined are his parents; Lucille and Peter, Sr., three sisters; Evelyn, Bonnie and Pamela Raish, grandparents; Charlie and Sarah Headbird and John and Agnes Raish, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Those he leaves behind are his daughters; Cheyenne (Cory) Raish-Massey of Philadelphia, PA and Corvette Northbird, sister; Bev Raish, nieces; Lucille and Kinsley Raish, nephews; James (Kimberly) Raish, Sr. and James Raish, Jr., several other family members and his friends.
An overnight wake for Pete will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29th and continue until his 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, November 30th all taking place at the Mission Community Center in Cass Lake, MN. Fathers George Ross and William Butcher will officiate. Pallbearers for Pete will be Ed St. John, Scott Whitebird, Curtis Jackson, Brandon Headbird, DJ Headbird and Robert “Jappy” Headbird. His honorary pallbearers are Donnie Headbird, Donahue Wittner and all his family and friends. Interment will be in the Prince of Peace Cemetery at Cass Lake/Mission, MN. The family requests that everyone follow COVID procedures and wear a mask.
