Remedios "Remy" Garcia (Plantar) Tauber

With profound sadness we announce that Remedios Garcia Tauber, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched, passed away on May 25, 2024 at the age of 81.

Remy was born in Leyte, part of the Visayas group of islands in the Philippines. Having been present in the Pacific during the end of World War II and the Korean War, she witnessed incredible changes to her world. Remy was adamant about passing down ancestral stories, including her own life stories. She referenced experiences during that time including her memories of first seeing and hearing military planes fly overhead as she and her sister played in the ocean.

 In 1966, she met and married her former husband Bruce Fluke, who was stationed in the Philippines. One year later, she courageously traveled to the United States by herself, embarking on a new journey in another country, while pregnant with her first born. Her stories surrounding her first encounter in California is one that will be replayed in our minds and told to the generations that come after us.

 In 1977, she met and married her late husband James Tauber. They were married for 38 years. During that time, Remy and James enjoyed the flea market life and met many friends. However, her one real true love will always be Elvis Presley!

Remy lived her life as a humanitarian. She deeply cared for the welfare of other people and has been involved within the helper field. For many years, Remy motivated, guided and supported Filipinos in receiving their citizenship. She also worked in the nursing field, endlessly caring for those who needed a soft touch, or a song to help them pee! She loved to cook and was extremely creative and talented in crafts; whether it was crocheting blankets, sewing pillows, making hats out of yarn or Christmas ornaments out of colored paper. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

 Remy was preceded in death by her parents Zoilo and Pascuala Plantar; her siblings, Pedro, Lucricio, Salvador, and Mauricio Plantar.

Remy is survived by her sister, Guillerma (Guirlie); brother Gregorio (Wesing); daughters, Marita Baker (Todd), Leighsa Peterson, Jennifer Maupin (David) and Shellie Hunsperger (Mike); grandchildren, Thea, Bodie, Maya, Paul, Cole, Aleighcia, Skye, Daniel and Cameron; and great grandchildren, Jon, Zeke, Zaire, Taylor and Jacoby, as well as many other family members and friends who all loved her dearly. Remy touched the lives of many people. Her outgoing personality, her amazing smile and her contagious laugh will forever hold an upbeat tune if sound could ever be put into a memory.
