On July 23rd, 2021, Richard “Dick” Anthony Lorentz, age 78, of Walker, MN passed away peacefully at Saint Mary’s Essentia Hospital in Duluth, MN, with his wife Jan, and daughters, Angie and Chris, at his side.
Dick was born on April 2nd, 1943, in Staples, MN to the late William and Catherine (Kern) Lorentz. He attended school in Staples prior to serving 4 years with the US Navy aboard the USS Ponchatoula. After a 30-year career as a machinist for 3M in Staples MN, he retired in 2002.
Dick had a passion for the outdoors, from hunting and fishing to vegetable gardening and golfing. He had many hobbies, which only expanded in retirement. He prided himself in being able to craft from his own two hands, from bird houses to large sheds, and from trailers and fish houses to wood strip canoes. He also loved wintering in Arizona with his wife Jan. He succeeded in passing on words of wisdom, strong faith and work ethic.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and sisters, Loretta Lorentz, Mary Jane Volesky, and Dorothy Spiering. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jan; his two children, Angela Storlie of Elko New Market and Christina (Ryan) Windschitl of Grand Rapids, along with his granddaughters, Madden and Reese Windschitl, his brother William, sisters, Kaye Knowlton, Theresa Lorentz, Frances Donlin, and Agatha Lorentz, as well as in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many great friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 30th, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hackensack, MN with a mass of Christian burial at 4:00 p.m. and a visitation one hour prior. Father Timothy Lange will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Ripley, MN at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family to help carry on Dick’s legacy passion for the outdoors.
