Robert Wayne Horn

Robert “Bob” Wayne Horn, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 48, on Thursday, December 14, 2023, in Laporte, MN. He was born on November 26, 1975, the son of Sandra (Smiar) and Barry Horn in Bemidji, MN.

Bob was an outdoorsman, enjoying all that nature had to offer, hiking through the woods, fishing, and gardening. He was an active man, avidly biking year-round, snowboarding, playing harmonica, or processing firewood. Bob was very intelligent and graduated from Northwest Technical College Bemidji in 1998 with a degree in Performance Engine Machining. He was a fantastic mechanic, always fixing something.  A mechanic who could make parts, cobble something together from what he had laying around, never making a special trip to town or overspending. He was the “saver” in the family, from a young age. Bob loved playing with his nieces and nephews, he was just a big kid himself, and never missed Christmas baking with his brother Jeff’s family. He was a hard worker and seemed to be busy working on something, all the time. Hank, his dog, was his best friend and went everywhere with him. He and Hank did CDL Truck driving for a few years and worked several years for the DNR doing Forestry Trail Management and Prairie Restoration. Bob’s kindness, generosity, and huge heart will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

Bob is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruth Smiar, Bethel and Elsie Horn; and nephews, Anthony and Joshua Horn.

Those Bob leaves behind to forever cherish his loving memory are his mom, Sandra (Philip) Tepley; dad, Barry Horn; uncles, David (Barbara) Horn, Paul (Ida) Smiar; aunt, Suzy McGrady; brothers, Bryan (Jenn), Jeff (Hilary), and Craig (Dana) Horn; nieces, Gillian, Elise, and Emily Horn; and nephews, Caleb and Jakob Morgan, Thoren, Evan, Drew, and Isaac Horn.

A visitation for Bob will be held on Thursday, February 8th, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Service following at 11:00 a.m., all to be held at the Guthrie Community Center in Guthrie, MN. Pastor Keith Willard will officiate. Urn bearers are all Bob’s nieces and nephews. Bob’s honorary urn bearers are Ryan Theien, Marc Anderson, Aaron Anderson, and Phil Peterson.
