Robert James Zempel, “Bob”, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30th, 2023, at his home at May Creek Cottages in Walker, MN. Bob was born on May 14, 1932, in Big Stone, MN, the son of Daisy (Berglund) and Avoldt Zempel.
Bob grew up in the Ortonville area and graduated high school in Minneapolis, MN. He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served 2 years. Bob was a self-employed carpenter, he enjoyed building, painting, and proudly built 3 of his own homes. Bob and the love of his life, Hazel (Gallati) were married in 1977, they moved to Longville until they retired to Walker, MN. He liked to restore furniture for his lovely wife, Hazel, and they loved to dance. In his younger years, he loved to hunt and fish. Bob liked to talk about the military and shared many of his military stories with his grandson, Nick, who is also a Veteran. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Daisy and Avoldt; and brother, Roger Zempel.
Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years, Hazel; sons, Robert (Tommy) Jr., Steve, Alan (Bonnie); daughter, Michelle (Bradley) Michaud; step-sons, Jim (Tammy) Calaman, John (Alicia) Calaman; close grandsons, Nick (Shayla), Josh (Dan), Austin (Kimberly) Michaud, and Mike (Jamie) Calaman; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
