Ruby Lowry Obituary

On January 14, 2026, Ruby A. Lowry lost her two-year battle with cancer. Ruby was born in Cass Lake, Minnesota on September 13, 1954, to Benjamin Lowry Sr. and Margaret R. Lowry.

Ruby will be joining members of her family in peace; son Joseph “Dbl JJ” Jackson, father Benny, mother Margaret, her grandmother Ida Martinez, grandfather Bill Butterfly,  beloved uncle Frank “Scotty” Butterfly, her brothers Vincent, Lyman, and Benjamin Lowry, Jr., aunt Elizabeth Butterfly, and ex-husband Fred Jackson, Jr., best friend Laural “Pouge” Jackson and others that are beginning to be more than can be named.

Ruby is leaving behind her siblings Sharon DeClusin (Frank), Genevieve Lowry, Shirley Preston all of Bemidji and Ronald Lowry of Pillager, daughter Dana Jackson of Minneapolis, sons Daniel Jackson (Rochelle) of Prescott Village, Fred Jackson III, and Scotty Jackson both of Cass Lake, grandson Colin Jackson, who has been with her his entire 10 years. She has many other grandchildren, Dion, Hunter, Scotty, Casey, Rafiq, Lyla, Henry, Daniel Jr., Mya Rose, Fred IV, Cale, and Colin and great grandchildren Jackson, Roscelia, Lasiah and Ivy Rose all of whom meant the world to her, she loved them all so much. Ruby is also leaving a good life-time friend in Salt Lake City, Utah, Lynette Robison and aunt Sharon Butterfly from Montana. Ruby will also be leaving behind numerous nieces and nephews, who are Tony and Peter DeClusin, Patrick, Tiffany, Matthew and Brittany Lowry, Ben W. Lowry, Sr., Angela Lowry-Young, Christa Lowry-Brown and Kayleen Lowry, Robert Lowry, Sr., and Geneva Preston, and the Jackson Nieces and Nephews that still call her “Aunty”.

Ruby married Fred Jackson, Jr. in1973, and they moved to Minneapolis for a few years but moved back to Onigum to raise their children. The family moved to Cass Lake in the early 1990’s and Ruby, her children and grandchildren, have been there ever since.

She worked at the Indian Health Board in Minneapolis and has worked many years for the Leech Lake Reservation.  She particularly enjoyed working for the SNAP program where she was a nutrition educator.  She was always quick to educate family and friends on that subject.

Funeral services for Ruby will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bemidji, MN.  A one-hour visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. also being held at the church.  Elder Habadank will officiate.  Pallbearers for Ruby will be all her kids and grandkids.  At Ruby’s request, her cremains will be cared for by her family.

The Family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic, Joe Lueken Cancer Center, and the Sanford Health Hospice in Ruby’s battle with this horrible disease and the complications it caused. Also, thank you to the friends and community for their kind words and gestures to help us through this difficult time.
