Sally Sue Swendsen was born in Mankato, MN on May 30, 1937, and moved to Walker, MN at 3-1/2 months of age. She truly loved her home in Walker which was her “home base” until she passed peacefully on March 9, 2024.
While Sally was a beautician for most of her life, her true passion was spending time with family, friends and most of all, her grandchildren. She was positively delighted when she became a great-grandmother. She was an adventurer and loved to travel near or far and believed the best journey to be unpaved with an unknown destination. She could easily think up an adventure or join someone else’s with only a moment’s notice. Her grandchildren reminisce about her awesome picnics which often consisted of pulling over in a ditch and spreading a blanket. She was creative and enjoyed many pursuits including all forms of acrylic and oil painting, ceramics, textiles in the form of upholstery, sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She particularly loved outdoor pursuits which may include a visit to any state/federal park, snowmobiling, hiking, biking, the beauty of a fresh snow, chasing a full moon, catching a sunset, or tending her flower gardens. She was a fabulous cook at home and for others. Her grandchildren gifted her a tablet which increased her recipe base exponentially, to the delight of all!
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Florence Lewis; sisters, Patricia Albrecht and Geraldine Klug; son, Scott Swendsen.
Sally is survived by daughter, Susan Reiter; granddaughters, Amanda Reiter (Kent Ellefson) and Haley Bichner (Sean); grandson, Christopher Swendsen; and great-grandsons, Beau, Cooper (and soon… Jackson) Bichner.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walker, MN.
Sally’s care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker, MN. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.northernpeace.com
