Sharon Columbus Obituary

Sharon Joyce Columbus “Ozhawahskobeeke” of the King Fisher clan began her spirit journey on January 24, 2026, from her home in Cass Lake, MN surrounded by her loving family.   She was born on December 24, 1944, to Isaac Whitefeather and Charlotte Bryan in Red Lake, MN.  She was raised by her grandparents Angaline Clark and John Bigstar Fairbanks

Sharon worked for 30 years as a licensed addiction counselor where she touched many people’s lives in such a positive way.  No matter where you went, if you mentioned her name people would tell how she made a huge difference in their lives.  She was a great role model for all women.

She was a woman of many interests.  She loved to dance as was an avid jingle dress dancer.  She was the Red Lake Princess as a teenager.  She got her brown belt at age 55 in karate.  Her and her loving husband Duane loved to get on their Harley and go for rides, they went to Sturgis, all over the Black Hills, and many other places.  She has been sober since 1982 and stopped smoking in 1996.  Sharon enjoyed running the sobriety run from Red Lake to Fondulac.

She absolutely loved her family and enjoyed cooking big meals for them during the holidays.

Sharon was a kind, caring, loving person who loved her family unconditionally.  She also had a great love for animals, especially her dogs, Thunder and Lightning

Sharon is greeted in the spirit world by her parents; Isaic Whitefeather and Charolette Bryan, Shelly Whitefeather, siblings; Bill Jackson, Todd Pemberton, Peter Jackson, Dennis Jackson, Donavan Jackson. Fabian Jackson, Darlene Jackson, Ronald Whitefeather, niece Jancie Whitefeather.

Those left behind to cherish her loving memories are her husband, Duane Columbus, sons; Bryan Lussier Sr., and Maurice Lawerence, daughter; Shelly Crowe, brothers; Lee Whitefeather, Roderick Whitefeather, Jeff Jackson, and Wesley Jackson, sisters; Bonita Whitefeather, Ruby Whitfeather, and Kathy Pemeberton, 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

A wake will be held for Sharon on Wednesday January 28, 2026, beginning at 6:00p.m. and going until her traditional service on Thursday January 29, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m. all to be held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, MN. Her spiritual advisor is Anton Treuer.  Those helping to lay Sharon to rest are Jared Brown, Bryan Lussier Jr., Brenden Lawerence, Evan Lussier, Jordon Lawerence, and Gordon Jones, alternate pallbearers are Lee Whitefeather, and Cheryl Jackson, honorary pallbearers will be all of those that knew and loved Sharon.  Sharon will be laid to rest immediately following her service at the Whitefeather family burial grounds in Ponemah.
