Shawn “Murph” Phillip McMurrin passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji, MN. Shawn was born November 23, 1973, in Cass Lake, MN, to Annie McMurrin and Terry Day.
Shawn grew up in Walker and was a WHA Graduate, class of 1992. He enjoyed playing hockey at the skating rink, playing baseball, and football in his early years in school. He was a big Minnesota Vikings fan and looked forward to watching the game with his cousin and best friend Jason. After high school Shawn attended culinary school at NTC in Detroit Lakes. He loved to cook! Shawn worked at Northern Lights Casino for many years. He loved his job so much as a blackjack dealer, it did not even seem like work for him. He enjoyed meeting and getting to know his customers and made a lot of long-term friends. His greatest love of all was being a father and it was demonstrated by the love he had for his three daughters. “Murph” was known for his big smile and his sense of humor he shared with everyone he met, and he will be remembered for it and missed dearly.
Shawn is proceeded in death by his father, Terry Day; grandparents, Joe and Alice Day and Larry and Norma McMurrin; special aunt, Debra Tibbetts; cousin, Brian Northbird; and many other family members.
Shawn is survived by his mother, Annie; sister, Stacey; three daughters, Heidi (Michael), Cassandra (Nick), and Sadie; grandson, Michael Jr.; niece, Kiara; aunts, Susan and Laura; his longtime companion, Rana; and many more family and friends.
