Stanley Albert “B-Boy” Chief, Jr., age 80, journeyed to the spirit world on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from the Essentia Medical Center in Fargo, ND. He was born the son of Josette (Johnson) and Stanley Albert Chief, Sr. on February 9, 1943, in Onigum, MN.
Stanley grew up in the Oak Point area with his foster parents, Sarah and Ben Nestling. He graduated from Walker High School in 1961. Stanley was always joking and teasing, in a loving and fun kind of way. He had a love for cars. Stanley was never one to sugarcoat things, he said it like it was, honest and truthful. He was a loveable guy, especially by the ladies. He enjoyed playing slots at the casino, earned himself “High roller” status at Northern Lights Casino. Stanley was dependable, a respectable elder in the Onigum Community, one of the last fluent Ojibwe speakers, and a pillar in the community. Stanley was a jack of all trades and loved being a Taxi driver for many. He was able to enjoy his 80th birthday party at the Onigum Community Center, he was so proud of that and would speak of the party often.
Those greeting Stanley in the spirit world are his parents, Josette and Stanley Chief, Sr. and Sarah and Ben Nestling; sisters, Dorothy Day, Joanne Graelwski, Frieda Nestling Fairbanks; son, Bryan Misquadace; stepson, grandsons, Brandon and Lorenzo; significant other, Shirley Dunn-Fisher; and wife, Agnes Chief.
Those Stanley leaves behind to forever cherish his memory are son, Stanley Jones of Onamia, MN; stepdaughters, Jane Valencia and Patsy Fisher; Glen “Tuffy” Fisher; close nieces, Sharon Kotla, Karen Moses, Cynthia Fairbanks, Judy Fairbanks; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
A two-night wake for Stanley will begin on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. and continue until his Sunday, September 17, 2023, 10:00 a.m. service all to be held at the Onigum Community Center in Onigum, MN. Stanley’s Spiritual Advisor is Adrian Liberty. Special music will be by the Ojibwe Hymn Singers. Those helping to lay Stanley to rest are Norman Lawrence, Christopher Shabaiash, Byron Garbow, Wyatt Charwood, David “Daley” Bough, and Rick Parkhurst. Honorary pallbearers are Mary York, Catt Haugen, Annette Cloud, Mel Hunt, Matt Hunt, Bill Butcher, Dan Oothoudt, Dale Tatro, and Darrell Charwood. Interment will be in the Fairbanks/Cloud Family Cemetery in Oak Point.
