Steven Henry May, of the Bear Clan and Red Lake, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 20th, 2024, at Red Lake IHS. He was born in Bemidji, MN, on December 30th, 1989, the son of Flora Jones and Gerald May, Sr.
Steve was a very gifted musician from a young age. His first guitar he got he never took it off, he even slept with it. His older brother, Clem, played the drums and left them set up in the garage or in the trailer. Steve started playing the drums and became a better drummer than his brother. He played in a band with his brothers, Clem and Mickey, and nephew, Charlie called MAYhem. The band won a battle of the bands and got to record a CD at Gary Burgers however, that never happened because Gary passed away. He opened for Blue Oyster Cult and David Allen Coe. If you were lucky enough to see Steve play, you’d know there is no one like him, he was one of the best! He even played Hank Williams III guitars on his tour bus and Hank videotaped him. Steve’s other hobbies were playing video games, taking apart instruments and rebuilding them, going to concerts, hanging out with his brothers, buddies, and of course his kids, whom he loved very much. Steve was a BIG old school rock and heavy metal fan. He also loved all his pets he had over the years. Steve will be sadly and greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Steve is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Margaret M. May and Vivian S. Jones; grandfathers, Philip Mick May and Earl L. Jones, Sr.; great-grandmothers, Mary K. Sumner, Cora May, Mary L. Jones; great-grandfathers, Joseph K. Sumner, Alfred Jack Jones, and Antone May; special aunties, Monica Beaulieu and Georgia Roy; uncle, David V.
