Tim Dahmen passed away at the age of 80 surrounded by his family on April 27th, 2024.
He was born October 24, 1943 in New Ulm Minnesota and grew up in Minneapolis where he met his wife of 60 years, Sandy (Fure). They married on July 25th 1964 and had three children.
Tim worked in the trucking industry for many years but he was very happy to retire when he was 48 years old. We are proud of the fact that during his driving years, he was a union steward for Teamsters Local 544 and also earned the title of Minnesota Driver of the Year, awarded by the Minnesota Motor Transport Association, in 1987.
He and Sandy built a home on Leech Lake in 1994 where he worked a few jobs in the Walker community. He loved spending time on the lake and teaching his grandkids and great grandkids how to fish. He also enjoyed time at the Walker Legion with his Legion family.
Tim was known by all to be fun, genuine, and a bit of a smart ass. He gave the BEST hugs and had the best smile! He was big hearted and was always willing to lend a hand. And if you were ever short on cash, Tim would dig into his ‘rathole’ and help you out.
Tim was preceded in death by his mom, Aurelia Larson, sisters Patricia Duncan and Ramona Wideen and brother Gary Schmiesing.
Tim is survived by his wife Sandy, his children Jeff (Heather), Kim Mellem (Todd), and Cheryl Tostenson (Tal). Grandchildren Jake Mellem (Emily), Hunter Tostenson, Josh Mellem (Ashley) and Devyn Harris (Michael). Great grandchildren: Layla, Hallie, Brooks, Hayes, and Jett. Also many nieces and nephews that he had strong bonds with and loved with all his heart. He is also survived by his brothers Ron Dahmen, Mike Dahmen and Curt Wideen.
Celebration of life will be at the American Legion, Walker, MN beginning at 1pm on May 4th, 2024.
Tim’s care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker, MN. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.northernpeace.com
