Vern was born in Warroad, Minnesota to Gerald and Lorraine (Lightning) Sargent.  He was an enrolled member of the White Earth Nation and attended Warroad High School. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather with the gift of gab. In his youth, he played hockey and softball, and enjoyed walks. He loved to cook, play with his dogs, and talk on the phone.

Vern is survived by his siblings De Lightning, Juanita Tesar, Leslie Sargent, Christie (Bruce) Becker, and Beth (Paul) Schloegel, his children Floyd (Suzee) Iceman, Liz Sargent, Josette Sargent, Cameron (Alexa) Sargent, Justin (Casondra) Tejada, Vernon (Krystal) Sargent Jr., Gerald Sargent, bonus daughters Jennie Kappenman, and Waaban (Wilson) Kappenman, his grandchildren Samantha Iceman, Carrie Iceman, Devin Nash, Vernon Sargent III, Calvin Tejada, Blair Sargent, Abigail Sargent, Rayhaunna Rushman, Rhileigh White, Daraya Kingbird, Jamison Kingbird, his great-granddaughter Eden Chyld, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald Sargent and Lorraine Lizebeth Lightning, partner Carrie Iceman, son Zeboriah James Lightning Fish, siblings Thomas Lightning and Bernadine “Gidget” Sargent, and niece Lorraine “Rainy” Londo.

The family invites all who can attend to a potluck luncheon at the Redby Community Center (19050 State Hwy 1, Redby, MN, 56670) on Saturday, June 8th from 1:00pm-4:00pm.
